Innovative local grocer Bob Baesler named to FMI board
- October 31, 2006

Bob Baesler, owner of Baesler's Market at 29th and Poplar in Terre Haute, who has brought innovative products and services to local shoppers, has been named to the board of directors of the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).

FMI is an international organization that conducts programs in research, education, industry relations and public affairs on behalf of its 1,500 member companies - grocery retailers and wholesalers.

Baesler has led grocery retailers in the area with innovations like Pay By Touch, which allows customers to pay for their groceries with just the touch of a finger and his online eShopper program offering weekly savings and a grocery list online. The store's Pump Perks program is unique to the area because there is no per-gallon limit to the savings. And Baesler's is the only local grocery to safeguard the health of shoppers with an in-store defibrillator for use in the event of cardiac arrest.

Baesler has been an active FMI member for more than 30 years and represents other independent grocers on the board that also includes representatives from some of the country's major grocery retailers.

The FMI board sets policies for the organization, which provides leadership and advocacy for the food distribution industry worldwide. Board members are selected to represent the industry by sales volume and geographical location with equitable representation by food retailers and wholesalers of all sizes.
